Queen City Chordsmen

Queen City Chordsmen are proud to be part of Buffalo’s rich musical heritage, carrying forward the timeless sound of four-part a cappella barbershop harmony. As the Buffalo chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society, our chorus has entertained audiences, built lifelong friendships, and preserved a uniquely American art form for generations.

📜 A Legacy of Harmony in Buffalo

Early Roots & Charter Years

Barbershop singing has deep roots in Western New York, and the Queen City Chordsmen were formed to ensure that tradition would thrive in the Buffalo area. Originally chartered under SPEBSQSA (the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America), the chorus became part of what is now known as the Barbershop Harmony Society.

From the beginning, the Chordsmen focused on musical excellence, community involvement, and fellowship — values that remain at the heart of the chorus today.

🎶 Growth, Performances & Community Presence

Through the decades, the Queen City Chordsmen have been a visible and active presence throughout Western New York. The chorus has:

  • Performed at community events, festivals, and civic celebrations

  • Presented annual and special concerts

  • Supported and nurtured barbershop quartets

  • Represented Buffalo within the regional barbershop community

The chorus is known not only for its sound, but for the camaraderie and joy shared among its members — a hallmark of barbershop singing.
 

🎤 Quartet Tradition & Musical Excellence

Buffalo has long been home to accomplished barbershop quartets including the Buffalo Bills Quartet, and the Queen City Chordsmen proudly support that tradition. Chorus members frequently form quartets, perform in small groups, and participate in Society events that celebrate harmony, craftsmanship, and performance artistry.

This close relationship between chorus and quartet singing strengthens the musical foundation of the organization and helps singers grow at every level.

Today, the Queen City Chordsmen continue to rehearse weekly, welcome new singers, and explore opportunities for growth and renewal. While honoring a proud history, the chorus remains focused on:
